What Are Semiconductors?

Semiconductor is a kind of electronic material with semiconducting properties (conductivity is between that of conductor and insulator, and the resistivity is about 1mΩ·cm~1GΩ·cm), which can be used to make semiconductor devices and integrated circuits. In general, the conductivity of semiconductors increases as the temperature increased, which is exactly by contrast with metal conductors. Common semiconductors include elemental semiconductors such as silicon (Si) and germanium (Ge) and compound semiconductors such as gallium arsenide (GaAs) and gallium nitride (GaN).
