IUPAC Name
Rubidium(1+);bromide
Synonyms
Rubidium monobromide
Application
Rubidium bromide, a white crystalline powder, is primarily used in infrared optics applications. As a hygroscopic material, its properties align closely with those of other rubidium halides. Exhibiting a NaCl crystal structure with a lattice constant of 685 picometres, rubidium bromide is typically synthesized through the reaction of rubidium hydroxide with hydrobromic acid or by neutralizing rubidium carbonate with hydrobromic acid. Direct synthesis from rubidium metal and bromine is not economically feasible due to the cost and explosive nature of the reaction.
